Store Closure FAQs

Is AAA Washington going away?

No way! We’ve been in the PNW for more than 120 years, we’ve got more members than ever —1.2 million!—and we’re not going anywhere.

When will the AAA stores close?

Our Alderwood, Mount Vernon, and Tacoma stores will close on May 2, 2025. The remaining nine stores will close on June 27, 2025. Until closure, the stores will maintain normal hours and can handle all your travel, insurance, and membership needs.

Why is AAA Washington closing its retail stores?

Over time, members have shifted from visiting our physical stores to handling their membership, travel, and insurance needs online. The pandemic only hastened this shift. Today, only a tiny fraction of AAA Washington members visit a store. So, while we love our stores—and we know some members will miss them—we believe that moving to a fully virtual service model is the best way to address the needs of the vast majority of AAA Washington members.

Will I still be able to work with my favorite travel advisor or insurance agent?
Absolutely! In fact, your AAA Washington Travel Advisor or Insurance Agent will be available in more ways than one; connect with them via video chat, email, or phone—whatever works best for you. Visit our Find a Travel Advisor page or Find an Insurance Agent page to view their details.

I never got the chance to visit a store; how do I find a local travel advisor or insurance agent?
Find and connect with the AAA Washington representative that best meets your needs via our travel advisor directory or insurance agent directory.

What if I’d like to do my own travel planning and booking? Can I do that through AAA Washington without working with a Travel Advisor?
Definitely! You can access easy-to-use travel planning and booking tools right now on our Travel page. Book a cruise, tour, air, hotel, rental car, and more, often with special AAA benefits and savings built right in.

How do I apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP)?

You can easily apply for an IDP via the mail. We’ll process your request quickly, so your IDP is delivered well in advance of your journey. You can conveniently have an IDP photo taken at most local drugstores. Learn more here.

I used to go into the store to get a passport photo, how will I do that?

Visit a AAA store near you until the day of closure, and we’ll be able to help you out! Post-closure, you can obtain a passport photo at most major drugstores in our area, or even print one at home! Learn more at travel.state.gov.

How will I do a currency exchange order if I can’t come into a store location?

You can order foreign currency online from AAA and have it delivered to your home in one business day!

How can I get TripTiks?
TripTiks are already available digitally! Visit the TripTiks page, tell us a little about your trip and what you’d like to check out along the way, and a handy plan will pop right up! Download it to your phone or print it off—no trip to the store needed.

Will I still be able to purchase travel accessories and luggage from AAA Washington?

Unfortunately, we will no longer be selling travel accessories, luggage, books, and other travel merchandise.

Will AAA Washington continue to offer free travel events?
Yes! We will no longer host in-store events, but we will offer a variety of virtual events via Zoom throughout the year, along with our big, in-person Travel Shows! Connect with top travel vendors, learn the latest trends, and take advantage of event-only offers! Browse the current slate of events on our Travel Events page.

With AAA Washington employees working from home, how do I know my information is safe?

AAA Washington takes your data security very seriously. Our advanced suite of security tools will continue to keep your information well-protected, no matter where our employees are working from. In fact, these systems are tried and tested, as we’ve been using them since many of our employees began working remotely during the pandemic.

How can I renew my AAA membership?
There are so many ways! Quickly renew here, or handle everything membership-related by logging into (or creating) your online account here. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Give us a call at (800) 562-2582.
